Architecture and reconstruction

Due to the massive destruction during World War II in the city, in principle, there are no monuments prior to the conflict (except Notre Dame on rue de Paris). Postwar buildings is the model example of the modernist city built from scratch after nearly total destruction. The city was almost built anew in the years 1946-1954, mainly thanks to the vision of Auguste Perret, the French architect known as the father of reinforced concrete. Le Havre Centre (also called center-ville reconstruit), as an example of postwar reconstruction, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2005 (for similar reasons on the list that went before the Warsaw Old Town). The most interesting objects (in addition to the planning system) is the church of Saint-Joseph, the town hall and market hall. Moreover, in later years, a team of modernist architecture in the city has been supplemented by so-called. Volcano (1961) – the work of Oscar Niemeyer (are there such as cinema, theater and other cultural institutions) and the modernist church. Michael (1965) by Henri Colboc’a.
